Mini Workshop: exploring feelings and needs in couples communication

Picture
Enjoy this mini-workshop from the comfort of your accommodations via a brief, recorded workshop.  It is designed to be light and immediately useful—helping you walk away with tools you can use long after the weekend ends.

The workshop

During this recorded session with Amy Alexander, you’ll be introduced to the basics of Nonviolent Communication (NVC)—sometimes called life-enhancing communication. Together we’ll explore how it differs from the more common life-alienating communication patterns that often leave us feeling unheard or disconnected.

This is not a lecture—it’s a playful, practical experience.
You’ll:
  • Learn a simple framework for being empathetic and emotionally intimate
  • Practice expressing feelings and needs with honesty and compassion.
  • Practice connecting in your heart to both your own feelings and your partner’s, right in the moment.
  • Explore compassionate, creative ways to meet one another’s needs.

Meet: Amy

Amy is a mom of two, a mountain girl, wannabe homesteader, and natural life liver.

Amy is passionate about relationship well-being and compassionate communication.  Her love for Nonviolent Communication started when she was invited to join a book discussion with that book as the star.  It changed her life. Learning about the four-step process of observing, noticing feelings, recognizing needs, and making requests has been both a joy and a challenge to implement into her life since that day.  One of her favorite tools, WE GROK, has been used in her family (think challenging conversation with teenage daughter) and with friends to explore topics and get connected and clear.  She looks forward to sharing these tools with you.

Important Note: Amy is a facilitator and educator, not a licensed therapist. This workshop is educational in nature and is not a substitute for couples counseling or therapy.

Sound Bath

A message from your guide

My name is Rebecca Louden and I am a sound healing facilitator. Music has an influence on all of us. I have always loved music and have been a singer all my life. My intense curiosity about the human brain and how it functions led me to the science behind sound baths. I wound up taking a course on sound healing and how to lead people through the experience. It is essentially a tiny concert using crystal bowls and other instruments.

South baths support mental health by triggering the parasympathetic system through vibration. Everything physical has an energetic component and everything has a vibration, including your body and its organs. Sound is vibration. The effects of vibration and energy on us are observable and measurable, through things like heart rate and brain activity. Sound has the power to ignite our own healing processes, something our bodies automatically control. I am excited to be able to facilitate sound baths and offer this service to others.
Sound baths can be considered a subtle form of meditation that requires very little of the participant. The sound sets off the system in our bodies that has the effect of shutting down the stress response. As Danielle Klein, a local instructor in sound healing points out, sound baths can:  induce deep relaxation, bring stress relief, support emotional release, help to process emotions,  release stagnant energy,  improve sleep, enhance mental clarity and more! Every individual is unique and may experience their own effects.

You don’t have to do anything to participate in a sound bath but show up. I’d recommend wearing something comfortable.  Many people choose to lie down for the experience, so bringing an optional pillow and blanket can make the experience especially relaxing. As far as how it works, the basic physics are that your body entrains itself to the sound, meaning it begins to vibrate at the same rate as the sound. This also aligns the entire body and all its organs to the same frequency.  A sound bath is the catalyst for relaxation, telling our bodies and brains it is time to repair our systems and embrace healing, both mental and physical. Come and enjoy the experience and the effect it can have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to bring anything?
Just yourselves, outdoor clothing for the mountain weather, and a willingness to relax.  Bring your own snacks and items for the meals not provided.

What about meals?
We provide nutritious, warming meals that perfectly complement the cool mountain atmosphere—think cozy, hearty dishes that nourish both body and spirit. Breakfast and dinner are included each day, while lunch is left open for you to enjoy at your own pace. Depending on your accommodations, you’ll have access to either a full kitchen or a kitchenette if you’d like to prepare something yourself. For those who prefer to explore, there are also several wonderful local dining options within about a 30-minute drive, including The Inn at Raspberry Ridge, Propaganda Pie, and The Redstone Inn.

We’re not very outdoorsy. Will we still enjoy it?
Absolutely. All activities are optional and beginner-friendly. You can be as adventurous or as cozy as you like.

How many couples will be there?
We intentionally keep this retreat small and intimate so that every couple feels cared for and has plenty of space to themselves. We host no more than 8 couples, giving you lots of time to enjoy the peaceful quiet of Marble and the cozy comfort of your own accommodations. The only shared moments are a touch of group time for the class —woven into a weekend designed for connection, rest, and renewal with your partner.
