SUSTAINABILITY

We LOVE our planet! Marble is a pretty great place too, and we want to keep it that way. Currently the Beaver Lake Lodge and Cabins have a solid A rating from the Cool Climate Network a partnership at the University of CA, Berkeley which ranks us in the top 7% of environmentally conscious hotels nationwide.  Marble also received the DarkSky certification, which means that we manage light pollution, meaning your stargazing opportunities will be amazing (more information available at the Lodge).
We still want to do better, and are implementing unique ways of reducing our impact on the environment. We encourage our guests to do the same.
Take our pledge and get free postcards to send to your friends while at the lodge!

HERE ARE SOME OF THE WAYS WE WORK TO REDUCE OUR FOOTPRINT:

Reduce Waste:
  • All accommodations have separate recycling cans for glass, plastics, cardboard and paper.
  • Our hungry gardens love your compost, we provide countertop bins to collect your food waste and transform it into soil food!
  • We try hard to reduce single us plastics. The ones that do make it through our picky shopper filter are stuffed inside large plastic jugs to create "Eco-Bricks" that can be used in building projects. We encourage guests to separate out their single use plastics for us to stuff as well (or stuff themselves in one of our jugs).
  • Along with our quest to reduce single use plastics is reducing packaging in general. We use refillable soaps, biodegradable non-toxic sponges and laundry detergent sheets and powders.
  • Fire boxes, small boxes stuffed with paper scraps, helps reduce the load on the recycle program and provide kindling for our group firepits.
  • What trash does make it through this program and heads towards the landfill does so inside biodegradable non-toxic trash bags.
Water Love:
  • We use 100% non-toxic cleaning supplies helping both the Earth and our staff's ability to breathe.
  • Our soaps and toiletries are also non-toxic and paraben and sulfate free.
  • We ask guests to reuse towels to reduce water usage.
  • We use drip irrigation and soaker hoses in our garden beds along with heavy mulch and drought resistant  plants and grasses.
  • We use low-flow toilets and water fixtures in most accommodations
  • Never ever do we use pesticide, chemical fertilizers or herbicides.

Energy Savers:
  • We use electric lawn equipment and tools.
  • We use all LED lights, motion sensors and timers

Carbon Off-Set
  • We maintain a agro-forest on our back lot with active plantings of climate appropriate perennial plants.
  • We carefully cultivate trees and native flora on our property.

Coming in 2025!  Our Freight Farm and event space!  More information to come...
